Friday April 30, 2004:
Six Flags Physics Day

The ride "Mr. Freeze" will again be set up so that students can wear data collection vests on the ride to gather height and force information.

Order your tickets soon to get a CD of curriculum materials:

ALSO:
We are in need of volunteers to help us with the
"high tech" data collection process at the Mr. Freeze ride during Physics Day at Six Flags. If you can help, please send an e-mail as soon as possible to  bbrink@jburroughs.org, indicating which hours you are willing to help cover.

We plan to schedule helpers in shifts of approximately two hours duration. Shifts will start on the hour. We need helpers during the time periods starting at 9:00 am and ending at the close of the park.
I am willing to cover the following shift:

 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. to close

If you are flexible, please check all shifts that would work for you. If you only want to cover one shift, please indicate this, and we will schedule you for the shift that best fits our needs. If you are willing to cover more than one shift, let us know this as well. We will only ask you to cover one shift unless we have need for more help and you are willing to help for more than one shift.

Remember that Six Flags has promised to give each teacher that covers a shift a free lunch voucher and a free return ticket to Six Flags.

If you respond with a specific shift request, we will automatically schedule you for that shift. Please show up a few minutes before your shift begins so that we can orient you to your job. If you are scheduled for the 9:00 shift, we realize that getting there by 9:00 is basically impossible. Please arrive as early as you can. Some volunteers have indicated that they can't get there until about 9:30. We will ask people who start at 9:30 to stay until about 11:30 to help with the transition to the 11:00 am shift.

If you respond indicating that you are flexible as to which shift you can cover, or are willing to cover more than one shift, we will try to reply to your e-mail. In the reply we will tell you which shift(s) we need you to cover.

The tent inside the exit of Mr. Freeze will be our headquarters where we will set up the equipment and download and print the data. To get to this area, go in through the exit gate for Mr. Freeze and follow the walkway until you reach the tent. We plan to have signs posted to guide you to this area.

We are grateful for any help you might give as we try to provide this worthwhile experience for all of our physics students. Replies to this e-mail are preferred over phone messages. Friday will be fun!

See you at Six Flags,
